Travel Management for the Gunnison National Forest is here. There will be a meeting with the district ranger of the Gunnison National Forest, Jim Dawson, as well as members of his staff, on this Wednesday, June 21st, 6pm, at the FS office in Gunnison.

This meeting is for motorized users specifically and while preliminary in nature, is apparently happening to accomplish two things.

First, the FS will lay out it's plan and preliminary time line for the travel management process. They will probably be providing dates of future meetings, and provide us with methods for communicating with them regarding travel management planning.

Second, this is an opportunity for motorized users to let the Gunnison FS staff know what we would like to see with the Gunnison Forest travel management without having to compete with other user groups for "floor time." Bring an open mind, some good ideas, a problem solving attitude and be prepared to listen, as well as speak.

The Forest Service is holding similar meetings with other user groups and you can bet that those user groups will show up in vast and vocal numbers, as they likely will throughout the process. Consider that doing what you can to attend this meeting and future travel management meetings is an investment in your motorized recreational opportunities on the Gunnison. Attending these meetings with constructive, well-thought-out ideas and opinions, as well as backing up our attendance with letters and phone calls is the key to retaining the excellent multi-use opportunities we enjoy on the Gunnison.

Spread the word and plan on attending.

Thank you.
