Comments from Carla Boucher, attorney for the United Four Wheel Drive Associations
The short explanation of the issue goes . . . 2% of visitors visit wilderness and backcountry which comprise 18% of forest system lands. In contrast, 64% of users engage in OHV activities, which will increase 4,000% percent through 2050, and they utilize just 2% of the land. These figures change slightly from state to state depending on the acreage of wilderness and roadless area and the OHV use cited in recreation studies by the US Forest Service, but by-and-large this in an accurate understanding of the situation.
