Jetting
your bike properly is key for having fun in the Gunnison Basin. Your bike
will make better power, use less gas, not foul plugs and lose the cloud
and drool when carbuerating properly. CBTRA president Don Turk has the
following advice to offer when jetting:
For
6000 - 9500 ft drop the main jet 2-3 sizes, fuel screw 1 turn out.
For
above 8500 ft all the time, drop main 3-4 sizes lower needle-raise clip
1step, 1 size smaller pilot, fuel screw 1 turn out.
For
bikes with after market exhaust and air box lids removed start with
dropping the main 2 sizes and 1 turn out on fuel screw.
For
6000 - 9500 Drop main 3 sizes lower needle raise clip 2 steps, 1 size
smaller pilot, air screw 1 1/2-2 turns out
For
above 8500 all the time drop main 4 sizes, use next step leaner needle
on top clip, 2 sizes smaller pilot, air screw 1 1/2 turns out.
These
spec are for most modern stock bikes in warm weather. cooler weather
and after market products will require less of a reduction in jet sizes
and plug checks. Brown plug GOOD,lack plug to rich. grey or white to
lean. Suzuki drz 400 we/ air box lid removed and a pipe, change fuel
screw to 1 turn out only. Ktm 2 strokes seem to run rich to begin with
a sea level.
If
it's your first time riding at these elevations, plan on spending some
time rejeting your bike when you get here. Every bike's different--be
ready to switch jets, check your plug and so on until you get it right. |
